EMMAS DESIGNBLOGG

Design and style from a Scandinavian perspective

Colorful Finnish kids room

Among my latest favorite blogs is Pisarapilvi, a Finnish blog with the most beautiful photos of her family home decorated with lots of wonderful Scandinavian design! She just had a baby so her older children's room had to be refurnished a bit, and she posted these photos on her blog when she wanted to sell their old beds. I love this room, and can totally imagine her kids do too!

Blog tips!

I am starting to realize that I might not be able to update this blog as often as I had hoped. There just aren't enough hours in the day! I want you to know that I'm trying very hard to find time for blogging, but then answering emails and comments comes second, and I might miss answering them. So if you asked me a question in the last months and I haven't replied, I'm really sorry. Please contact me again and I'll try even harder to get to it!

If you are a new reader you might be wondering why I'm so busy... You see I had my third child three months ago, and that combined with moving to a house that is in dire need of renovating and decorating, and also being located in the countryside which makes simply meeting a friend for coffee will turn into a full day event, well, time just disappears!

This is why I want to give you a little more reading by sending you off to some new to me blogs that I really like, and I think you will to. Enjoy!

First out is The Brick House, about renovating a midcentury house on a budget, finding the perfect Scandinavian vintage furniture to fill it with, and the adventures along the way.

Second is Grey, a Canadian blog about "beauty in all forms: fashion, architecture, interiors, products".

Last up today is Varpunen, a Finnish blog which I can't read without google translate, but the pictures totally make up for that!

This is her kid's room, see what I mean about the pics make it worth looking at without knowing a word of Finnish?

Blog tips!

Swedish stylist Jacob Hertzell just emailed me to tell me he has started a blog. Great news for all of us that are fans! of his work Go take a look at his blog, called The Interiornational, and welcome him to the blogosphere! Below are two examples of Jacob's work, and here is a post I've written about him before.

Another new blog I just found out about is Design Delight, authored by design journalist Sandra Nolberg. It's in Swedish, but there is always Google Translate, right? Oh, and the design of her blog is great, I love the style!

Blog tips!

I've found a few new to me blogs recently that I wanted to share with you! They are all super stylish and inspiring, so be sure to check them out!

Some new favourites

I found some new fabulous blogs that I just have to share with you!

First off, Ellmania, which isn't new at all, but she just moved to Elle Interiör's web site, so you have to go over there now to find her. And while you are there, hop around to their other blogs, like this one written by Swedish designer Lisa Bengtsson, or this one by stylist Tina Hellberg.

Second, and this one I just found today, is Norsk Stil, written by Linda, a Norwegian Interior Designer from Bergen. She posts a great mix of photos from her own and her friends homes and stylish news from the world of design, with a focus on Scandinavian and especially Norwegian style and designs.

Another great find is Visual Notes, written by Maaret from Berlin! Here you will find beautiful products, in a very Scandinavian style but mostly available internationally, and Maaret's own photos from Berlin and Hamburg.

And last, but not least, Puur Anders, written by Dutch Jewellery Designer Miranda van Dijk. This blog is full of simple, pure style, not just about jewellery but also a lot of Dutch art, styling, design and fashion. And anyone who has followed my blog for a while knows that I am head over heals in love with Amsterdam, so I am saving each and every one of Miranda's tips on cool shops over there!

Now, off you go! I hope you like my selections!

Blogs I love

I thought I would give you a little list of blogs that I love, besides the big ones like Decor8, The Style Files, Bloesem and fine little day.

image3698
The first one I'd like you to give attention to is Malo, a Swedish design blog that is, in my opinion, totally rockin it! She has such a great sense of style, spot on in the Scandi, minimalist, airy style that I love.

image3699
Then there is Ellmania, another Swedish blogger, mixing modern design with vintage and some awesome themed blog posts on colours, art, typography etc.

image3700
Grijs, pure minimalistic bliss, from the Netherlands.

image3701
I love following the decoration of Frida's new apartment, seeing the absolutely fab choices she makes in shopping, colours and style at Fridas fina.

Another great blog find

Jan over at Poppytalk posted about this great little blog called "a day at a glance", where a couple in San Francisco documents the daily process of renovating their new apartment, complete with before, after and WIP photos. Looks like it's going to be a lovely place!

New blogs in my blog roll

You have to see this apartment!

A couple of weeks ago, my blog friend Kristina over at the Karkovski blog posted a link to her friend Mette's blog called Mettes Potteri. I followed the link, and was stunned by the beauty of her home. And, it isn't just beautiful, it's very cleverly designed too, with my favourite part being the sofa in the livingroom also functioning as a double bed and a guest bed! (Look at her blog to see how it works.) Mette, a Danish ceramist and childrens wear designer, lives in this light 78 square meters city apartment with her husband John and their baby boy. Now, this is Scandinavian style at it's best, mixed with a bit of country and retro as well. I am very proud to be able to give you a sneak peek into Mette's home!

image2340
The super smart sofa/bed/guest bed, with the bedding and top mattresses tucked away in the chest.

image2346
John's desk in the livingroom.

image2341
The dining table is also used as Mette's work table, with an inspiration board on the wall and her fabric stash conveniantly at hand.

image2342
Baby's room. Love the old cupboard with the black trunk on top.

image2344
A new use of old metal bathroom shelving over the bed, and a pair of Mette's baby pants on the wall.

image2343
Totally organized! Look at that spice rack next to the window with all the spices poured into identical glass jars...

image2345
The small kitchen table is covered with pretty oilcloth, very practical when dining with a messy baby. And I believe that is some of Mette's pottery we see in the cabinet on the wall.

My new blog

I've started a new blog called lazy days, where I post more personal stuff like my photos, thoughts about everyday life, crafting, films, food and any other interesting things that I might stumble upon. Check it out!
It's not quite finished yet, more links are coming, and I'm trying to figure out how to put my own header on there, but that will come, just give me a couple of days...

New to me blogs

I thought I'd share a couple of newfound blogs with you today, to give you some inspiration for the upcoming week!

First up is At Home with kim vallee, a great blog about throwing stylish parties, but what I like the most is the posts where she breaks down the elements of Habitat's styling in their summer catalogue, and tells you how to create the style yourself. Very professional and inspiring!

image2227image2228

Then we have feffakookan, an australian ceramic artist who blogs about her work and daily adventures around Brisbane. And the stories about her Little People are hilarious!

image2229image2230

And be sure to read Astrid's new blog! Fabulous photos and inspiring posts about anything from art and design to food and flowers. She also runs a photo blog, and has the most amazing flickr account!

image2231image2232

Lastly, I found the Akvi stilblogg by Anna Öst, founder of the Swedish design shop Akvi Home. She blogs about interior design, childrens products, food and cool tech-stuff in a fun mix.

fine little day

image1743image1744

I found this photo blog yesterday, with incredibly beatiful pictures! Simply Photo shows photos of everyday life, but shot in a way that makes you think a little differently about the things you are surrounded by. And if some picture feels especially pleasing to your eye, you can buy it at Jen's Etsy shop. By the way, this is also a nice blog if you are into cooking, since she often posts recipes that sounds totally delicious, and of course are accompanied by lovely pictures of the food as well.

I found smosch through her flickr photos, and then I found her blog, and I am so happy I did! Sandra seems to be a cool chic, crocheting crazy guys that she sells here, making cool illustrations, taking yummy pictures of food and stuff, and she likes to cut food and measure things...
