Giveaway: Ink print by Erika Blomgren, from Nordic Art House

To cheer up this gloomy Monday, I thought I would host a new giveaway here! This time the prize is a 70x100 cm giclee art print by Erika Blomgren, worth € 150 and sold through Nordic Art House. The name of the print is Ink, but that is all I know about this mysterious woman, so I thought it would be fun if you could give her a little more background... So please answer these questions to have a chance to win the print:

1. How many different prints by Erika Blomgren are available at Nordic Art House?
2. Get your imagination going and make up a short background story about the woman in the picture. Who is she?

    “The strong woman we see is now looking towards the end of her life. Erika depicted her in her young years, beautiful. But at that moment, her world was at war. People received letters, painful, written in ink. You can see, when you look into her eyes, that she knows. She must live with these memories for the rest of her life, like the ink of a tattoo.”

    Sorry to maybe make this Monday even more gloomy.. It was not my intention, it’s truly what I see in this beautiful and very skillfully made work of art, which I really really like. Hopefully many other stories will come, it will make this work and the woman in it even more stronger. Thank you Emma, for this post : )

    2. My story behind this print: as this weekend I finally got to see an amazing film 'Orladno' (1992) featuring Tilda Swinton, I could imagine that this woman is also a kind of transgenderal time traveler, who has been condemned/blessed with eternal life and at the moment is stuck in a body of a model posing in a photo-shoot :)

    2. This woman is working in a bar to earn some extra money which she needs to pay her appartment and LPs. You could picture such a smokey, raw bar with solely beardy male customers and some rock music playing in the background.

    The customers like here and she knows, but they also know not to get too "friendly" with her. Most of the evenings in the bar are spent drinking a beer and small talking, distant laughing with customers.

    One night a guy with a hat walks in, alone, drinks some beers, alone, and when the usual customers have left. he takes of his hat, looks at her and tells her just one thing: that he wants to paint her. She's attracted to his direct request and finds him intriguing, so she says yes.

    Afterwards they'll never meet again. But she's glad here silhouet still stands on his work somewhere. To prove of that one erotic night.

She's tough but feminine and beautiful at the same time, and so it's not difficult for her to seduce the beautiful stranger she meets in a luxurious hotel bar one night.     2.I believe that is the reflection of a woman looking at herself in the mirror. Her image appears hesitant and determined at the same time. You can tell that she is quite judgmental of herself-hence the sad look on her face. She is thinking of past struggles and trying to figure out who she is as a person in this world, wondering meanwhile whether she should step into it again or avoid it altogether...She longs to leave her shelter, yet she remains still, unable to move.

    2. Hon älskade det där veckoslutet på Sörmlandsleden. Doften från kvällselden, nattdoppet i insjön, värmen inne i tältet och vännernas lätta snarkningar intill. Men efteråt, väl tillbaka i stan, var det minnet av fästingbettet som överskuggade allt, och gav henne ingen ro.

    Hi there! The answer to the first question is 6. And here's my interpretation of the woman in the illustration.

    THIS is her alter ego!
    She’s the perfect Stepford wife. The wholesome mother of four. Well that’s what she pretends to be. Not because she wants to but because she is expected to. She lays out her husbands clothes every morning, makes breakfast eggs in 3 different ways (because she’s the perfect mom!). And when everybody is off to school and work, she does her daily chores and makes sure everything is ready for when her family gets back from their day.
    But every morning, when the daily chores have been done, at exactly twenty past eleven she goes up to the attick, undresses herself to the nude, puts on her vintage 1920’s robe and looks at herself in her great grandmothers full length oval shaped antique mirror. She lights up one of the cigarettes that are hidden away behind the dusty old radiator. She runs her fingers through her neatly coamed coiffe and smudges away her perfectly pink lipstick. For about two seconds she looks a bit sad. But that sad look is, shortly after, replaced by eyes that seem to fire up slowly.

    THIS is who she sees! The woman she always hoped to become some day (but hasn’t come around to becoming yet). She’s passionate about life and love and won’t let anyone stand in her way of achieving her biggest dreams. She ’s free from stereotypes and free from insecurities. And as she lights up her second cigarette she reminds herself that THIS woman will make her entrance one day and will never leave again. Someday she will finally be who she wants to be. Someday she will finally be HERSELF! She puts on an old Joanie Mitchell record and dances around the attick, singing along to the lyrics as loud as she feels like. She looks at herself on occasion, while she’s dancing and realises that she actually loves her body as it is (her husband always complains about her lovehandles). She looks at herself the way she wishes her husband would look at her once in a while (this is the exact moment that Erika Blomgren has cought on print).

    At exactly a quarter past twelve she undoes herself from all things alter ego, rushes downstairs and gets dressed in her navy and white flowered summer dress and cardigan. She perfectly coames back her hair and brushes away the smokey smell on her breath. A new applied layer of that perfectly pink lipstick makes her picture perfect again. Just the way they all expect her to look!
    At a quarter to one her kids arrive for a home lunch. “Sweathearts! Mommy has some grilled cheese sandwiches waiting for you! Come and eat them before they get cold!”
