EMMAS DESIGNBLOGG

Design and style from a Scandinavian perspective

Christmas Calendar 4/12: Story North

The prize in today's giveaway is something I have been looking at for years, but never got around to investing in. It's a true design classic. So I am very happy to be able to let one of my fantastic readers win this!
The company sponsoring today's giveaway is Story North, a brand new online store opened by Samantha Denisdóttir, the woman behind the stylish blog Lovenordic. If you have ever read her blog, you just know that this store is full of great products!

So what product am I talking about? The Kubus 4 candleholder, in black (worth € 135)! Danish Architect Mogens Lassen designed this in the 1960's as a rebellion against the ornate, elaborate home.

To get a chance to win this, just answer this question in the comments below:
If you had a Kubus, what other products from Story North would you match it with?

This giveaway is open for 24 hours and will close Monday 4/12 at 12.00 CET. The winner will be contacted by email and announced in this post.
Update! This giveaway is now closed!

Congratulations Louise, I have emailed you, so you and your son should get a nice package from Story North soon!

Kubus would match with most things from Story North, wouldn't it?

In the dinner table, I would have the Pia Wallen pot mats, Dahlström's oven pan for roasted potatoes, the Sarpaneva pot for the stew - or in the living room, I would have it on the sofa table while curled up in a Gibba blanket.

Would place the candle holder on a natural wood-stump coffee table in front of an ornate, recycled Victorian settee upholstered in off-white linen with a Branch Pillow and Pia Wallen Cross Blanket covering the seat. Perhaps adding a few round, silver ornaments on the table to add sparkle and reflect the candlelight! This vignette would combine the clean-lined, geometric and insanely eccentric.

Love this candleholder, it's been on my wishlist for ages! I would place it in my livingroom on my low shelving unit, hope that my daughter won't find it to interesting and then I would add some of the 'butterflies wall decoration' above it on the wall among all the artwork and let the lights play in the stainless steel.

I like mixing candles of different types and sizes. In some of the pictures of the products, they have the same family candle holders with only one candle, it would be nice to mix it with two of the small candle holders (one candle). But they don't seem to have it in store. I think it would also look good with the small Qubus Shrine, as long as the shrine is shorter, for different heights.

Good for all occasions but since it's the now, I would match it with the Caroline Swift Porcelain Angel and the Festivo Candle Holders - I imagine a nice tension between the strong straightforwardness of Kubus and the more play-full side of the other pieces.

Actually, I've been saving up for one of these- to match with two very generic American candelabras I already have. I cannot find who designs or produces them, but they are sold on ebay and etsy as "brass, folding candelabras." Or candle holders. Often they will say "mid-century," although one source says they are from the 90s. I think juxtaposing them would be very cool. Or nice and hot with all those candles!

On the right I would put a big Rosendhal Opus Storage Jar filled with acorns, and throw a whole bunch of matches in a Caroline Swift Bone China Tea Light Holder to complete the picture.

Last night my son asked me what I would like for Chritmas. I thought I would like a black cube metal candlestick which I had seen on design blogs. My problem was I did not know the name of the product. I thought I would try to research it by going to my favourite blog 'Emma's.'To my delight the very product I was looking for was featured today! What a coincidence!

I would match the candlestick with the Shrine' . I think the juxtaposition of the black metal and the glass would work well together.

If I got the Kubus, I'd wanna combine it with an Eames Hang It All. I love combining strict and playful. But if 'ifs' and 'buts' were candy and nuts, we'd all have a marry Christmas. So in real life I'd put it in my bedroom with my seablanket made by Vík Prjónsdóttir (that I bought last time I got a bonus) and my red Pia Wallén slippers I got for Christmas last year. A perfect way to get through the Chicago winter, providing both warmth and its reminiscence of home. And last, a perfect song to go with it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3E88k-AyPUU (First Aid Kit singing 'Emmylou')

    Hi Emma,

I love your blogg, I come in here at least one time a day. I really admire your work and what I like the most about it, is how open you are for all kind of styles.

I´m at the same place as you, I´ve been dreaming for the Kubus for a long time. There are only few years since I had my own home and I love to decorate it with timeless design. But many of these beautiful things, like these we see in Story North, cost a lot. At least here in Iceland it does! But than we have to make a wish, cross our fingers and hope for the best :)

If I would have a Kubus in my home, I would put it on my teak sidebar. Next to it is a big window and there I have a black raven as they sell in Story North. I love it. And if I could choose something to stay on the sidebar next to the Kubus I think I would choose the Dala horses, one black and one white as they show it. These three colors are beautiful together. Dark brown, black and white.

Next to the Dala horses we see Caroline Siwft´s earthenware spoons, and if I was throwing a dinner party I would love to have two of them in a big glass bowl joined with colorful salad and there, on the table, I would of course also have the Kubus :)

Thank you again for you great blog!
