A white dream in Paris

I got an email from a reader telling me about her husband's architect studio Ecole, and a link to this amazing Paris apartment he designed. Have you ever seen more beautiful stairs? These stairs make me think of grand pianos with their perfect curves and the black keys/steps against the white background.

This 95 sqm home covers the whole two top floors of the 18th century house, with the entrance, livingroom, kitchen,  guest room and bathroom on the lower flooor, and the owner's private space on the top floor, accessed through the steel staircase. I must say that the designer, Max Turnheim, has been very successful in keeping the grand impression of the old house but at the same time incorporating the new very minimalist decor, they really compliment eachother well.

I would get such terrible vertigo on those stairs, but they are pretty to look at!

Those stairs are incredible. I've seen that style before but these have something special to them.

Does anyone know what the floors are? Are they pickled pine perhaps?

I think I might need to go to alot of pilates classes to walk comfortably down that staircase!

wow, what brilliant work and spaces! thanks so much for sharing, and i hope you're having a wonderful week my dear!

Wow - those stairs! They are stunning. Remind me of these ones: http://www.redglassesblog.com/2010/02/08/blue-stairs-and-gorgeous-archicture/

Wow, ser fantastiskt ut!!

Mysigt badrum!

beautiful but also a bit scary staircase this is. But I love the combination of all the white and the old fireplace!

I think the picture doesn't fit, but the rest is impressive!! I totally love the white shelves and the stail... well, and the bathroom too, with this lovely view... it's amazing!!

Wow. At first I thought the white would not be for me, but I do think it works very well in this context. I actually love this sort of design, but my wife and I live in a tract home, which means we would have to remodel our home pretty much if we used designs like these. But these are concepts that fascinate me all the same. I thought the staircase was particularly intriguing. Of course the thought of navigating a staircase like this after one has had a few to drink is a bit disconcerting, but it is one slick looking concept.

Vitt och svart kan verkligen vara helt underbart! Vilka otroligt stora och fina fönster det här hemmet har. Tänk att få ha sådanna förster i badrummet på det här sättet.

I just love the black stairs and the black bed linen. Great pictures!

I just love the black stairs and the black bed linen. Great pictures in general and a fantastic piece of interior design work - staying so true to the actual character of the building.

Nice minimal looking but dangerous stairs :)

Very nice steps! I'm just afraid of that I won't be able to go to bed anymore after a night out...

The stairs are very striking but not practical, which makes it bad design in my mind. I wouldn't let my family use those stairs, and as for guests -- can you say "lawsuit"? The best outcome would be handprints on the white wall.
