Christmas Markets in Stockholm

If you live in Stockholm, or are coming to here to visit during the month leading up to the holidays, these are some highlights to check out in the plethora of Christmas markets going on around the city:

Konstfack, Dec 6-7, open 10 am to 5 pm both days, a huge market where all the students from the different branches of studies team up and sell products exclusively for the Christmas market. There are always some great finds here, and the prices are usually very reasonable, especially when you consider that you could be buying something from the next rising star on the Swedish design scene. I never miss this one!

Cho Kawaii!, Nov 28-30, mori & mimosa's Tokyo inspired Christmas market, in their shop at Högalidsgatan 34. Next door neighbours glass artist Esmée Alexander and textile artist Pasi Välimaa are also opening their studios and have invited other artists to come and join them. The mori & mimosa team has just come home from their travels in japan, and brought some Japanese goodies with them, which will be for sale along with their usual range of great and unusal designs. This is the place to go if you are looking for presents that noone else has seen before.

Designgalleriets Christmas Market, Dec 1-22. This is one market that I am very curious about. A jury consisting of members of the gallery, and top designer Eero Koivisto, has chosen 24 products designed this year, in three different price ranges up to 1000 kr, to make sure that everyone will find great Christmas presents! There will be everything from fashion and home accessories to graphic design and crafts, and some of the designers represented are Fuldesign, Karin Robling, Rörstrand, Lisa Bengtsson and Kosta Boda. Now this will be exiting!

And then there is of course the annual, traditional Christmas market at Hovstallet, Nov 28-30, with a Christmas tree exhibition, pony riding, 80 or more skilled crafters selling their work, and of course the usual glögg and food stalls.

Also if you like Swedish crafts, check out the market at Skansen every weekend from now until Christmas, it is very old fashioned and traditionally Swedish.
