Stockholm Guide

A typical Swedish home

This post is a little different than my usual posts, because today I want to show you what a pretty typical Swedish home looks like. This is the style of decorating that I see when I visit my friends' homes. Well, that is, if they have kids... If not, take all the colour out of these photos and put in a huge flatscreen tv, and you have a child-free Swedish home. ;-)
This style is much more colourful than what I usually show here, the wood of choice is oak, and there is lots of retro influences and an all over cozy and inviting feel. Do you like it? Could you imagine living like this?

This is from an article in Sköna Hem on a two bedroom apartment in Gothenburg.

You know, that Woods wallpaper has been EVERYWHERE for the past 5 or so years, but I'm still not tired of it. How is that possible? I get sick of everything that gets done to death! I must really like it, and yet, I can't bring myself to use it in my house because of its ubiquity. Hmm. Maybe I need to get over some issues...

Anyway. :) The excessive amount of color in this home makes me feel a little "itchy", but I always get like that. At least they've done it well, and it's a consistent look throughout the house. And I love the pendants over the bedside tables, the red cord is nice. I hate the green carpet in the living room and the burgundy one in the kitchen, though!

I'd move in right away! It's lovely!

I love it. Sign me up. Move me in. That pink quilt is fantastic too!

I LOVE how they are not afraid to use color all over the place!

I really like how all the chairs in the dining room are different colors. Such a livable cute space.

ja så kan jag tänka mig ha det. fast nu flyttar vi till renoveringsobjekt o ska ha det shabbychick allover med betoning på shabby!!!

Yes, definitely, I could live here. I just looooove Scandinavian style. Although I'd prefer a few less toys and the flat screen TV instead, but I'd take it either way.

I would live here in a second! I think the colours just add to the greatness of the rooms. Looks like such a cozy place.

I haven't seen many apartments like this in Norway... These colours are too bold for most people, I think (I'm practising, though). But the oak and flatscreen sounds familiar! And birch from IKEA... I also think there's lots of shabby chic / French country going on.

Wow - love it all!

What a lovely home — thanks for sharing. Incidentally, I've nominated you for an "I Love Your Blog" award — if you'd like to participate, you can find out more here: http://lorilangille.blogspot.com/2008/12/blog-love.html

Det är ett skönt hem. Långt ifrån all perfektioner och minialismen. Tack och lov har vi alla olika smak annars skulle världen vara alltför tråkig

vilket underbart hem!

Yes I like it.
I have a small child and have a lot of colours in my home (reds mainly) south american influence plus a few things from Ikea that are colourful like a red lounge! colour is good for children it hides the dirt and food marks! White is beautiful but no good for little hands!

Thanks for all of your comments!

I just want to add that I could never live like this myself, i'd get a headache from the colour overdose, but i think it's a very cosy and inviting style that i enjoy in my friend's homes. :-)

And to the Swedes that said that their friends' homes don't look anything like this, I'd love for you to make a post on what you think is a typical Scandinavian family home! And why not also all the international reader's, wouldn't it be fun to see some "real" homes from all over the world? I'm so curious! Please leave a comment here with a link if you decide to make a post of your own!

I love that blue chair - gorgeous colour!
